7 Questions to Ask your Real Estate Agent

Starting the home buying process soon? Here is a list of questions to ask your potential agent:

01. Do you work with first time home buyers? – Preparing to purchase a home can be overwhelming. Arming yourself with as much knowledge as possible is the best way to keep yourself in the driver’s seat. Having an agent prepared to do that is an important step!

02. Can you set me up on an automatic MLS email? – If your agent is a part of an MLS (Multiple Listing Service) you can ask them to set you up on an automatic email that will inform you every time something within your criteria hits the market!

03. Do you have a closing attorney you recommend? – Your home’s title search will be reviewed by a closing attorney. Having someone to make sure all your i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed is very important.

04. Do you have a list of lenders you recommend? – Most agents have local lenders that they work with on a regular bases. Your agent can connect you with lenders who they trust can get the job done.

Typically a buyers agent is a free service to you (paid for by the seller) and having a professional in your corner to help navigate is incredibly important.

05. Can you walk me through the process before we start our home search? – Ask your agent to talk you through the process, lenders, the purchase and sale agreement, the current market, and your specific needs. It is a great way to ensure you have everything you need, and your questions answered before you start your home buying journey.

06. When do you ask your buyers to sign a buyer brokerage agreement? – If you are interviewing multiple agents, it is a good idea to ask when they would like you to sign the buyer brokerage agreement. After reviewing the terms of that agreement, you can make a more informed decision.
