Common Mortgage Delays when Buying a Home

Mortgage Delays – nobody likes to have to wait longer to secure their new home! If you want to ensure your closing process goes smoothly, be sure to prevent these common mortgage delays when buying a home.

These are common causes of delays you’ll want to look out for to prevent yourself from playing the waiting game for your home.

01. Returning Documents – When a lender requests documents from you, taking too long to return them can often cause delays. They will need those requested docs to move your file forward.

02. Signing Loan Disclosures – When you delay signing initial loan disclosures rather than signing them upfront, the mortgage process will be delayed. This signed disclosure will need to be completed quickly.

03. Requesting an Appraisal – When you order an appraisal, they can take a week or so to come back, so it’s good to ask for one asap; otherwise, you risk delaying everything while waiting.

If you have a question about a disclosure, ask your lender asap to prevent any delays.

04. Using a Credit Card – If you make a large purchase with a credit card, such as on a car, or expensive furniture like washer and dryers, this can cause issues as well. Always consult your lender first!

05. Having an Expired ID – This could be a simple mistake that went unnoticed; but will cause delays! So, make sure your driver’s license is not expired before starting the mortgage process.

06. Using a Cash Deposit – Lenders prefer a paper trail; and cash is harder to source. Therefore, using a cash deposit will cause delays! Always ask before depositing.
