How to Upgrade the Exterior of a Home

Looking to make more money on your home sale? Upgrading the exterior of a home is always a great idea to increase your home’s appeal to buyers! After all, the exterior is the first impression they get!

Whatever the reason, here are a few ways how to upgrade the exterior of your home.

01. Replace your garage door – An updated garage door (especially if it’s front facing) will give your home a major facelift. Most older garage doors were made out of wood and have started to rot. If your garage door is still in good shape, maybe just a fresh coat of paint is all it needs.

02. Replace your front door – If your front door is older than 20 years, it might be a good idea to refinish or replace it. If you plan to replace, try picking something that matches the style of your home, A craftsman door is not recommended on a mid century home, a modern door will not fit the style of a victorian, and so on.

03. Refresh your landscaping – Even if your home exterior is freshly cleaned and painted, if the landscaping is overgrown, your curb appeal will be lacking. Mulch any leaves, cut the grass, lay out pine straw, and plant some flowers.

04. Add outdoor lighting – Outdoor lighting will make a huge difference in your home’s curb appeal. Not only decorative porch and garage lights, but spotlights on the home and trees are a great way to make your home shine.

If you spend a lot of time in your backyard, you want to share that with your potential buyers

05. Add a fire pit – Fire pits are a great way to showcase any outdoor living space. If buyers imagine using the outdoor space as much as the indoor space, they will consider that usable square footage. That will add so much value to your home.

06. Add deck or patio – Same as with the fire pit, a deck or patio becomes usable outdoor space. If you have the time and money, stage this space with an outdoor dining set or outdoor lounge furniture.

07. Invest in an outdoor kitchen – If you spend a lot of time in your backyard, you want to share that with your potential buyers. If you have a pool, or room to play games/activities, you may want to invest in an outdoor kitchen. Most outdoor kitchens include a grill, sink, and beverage fridge. Some also have a bar area that doubles as extra dining space.
